Cricket Captain 2022 is the thirteenth installment of a series of sports games in which we play the role of a cricket team manager and lead our charges to victory in official competitions.
Cricket Captain 2022 is the thirteenth installment in the series of sports managers in which we lead our own cricket team. The game was developed by Childish Things Studio, responsible for the series for years, which introduced a handful of improvements in the new installment.
Game mechanics
Cricket Captain 2022 uses the well-tested scheme. Players task is to manage a cricket team and lead it to victory in official competitions. This requires recruiting talented players, but also developing effective tactics and acquiring sponsors.
As with every year, the developers have updated the squad list, player stats, and rules to be consistent with real-world competitions. This includes both the Test Match Championship and ODI World Championship (i.e. limited over matches), as well as the 2023 World Cup competition and national leagues. As a result, Cricket Captain 2023 features over 7,000 players and 150 national teams.
Besides, the developer focused on improving many gameplay mechanics to give players more options and increase the realism of the game. The player aggression system has been completely overhauled, with separate ratings for each player in both one-day and first-class matches (lasting at least three days). This increases the dynamism of the matches and reduces the frequency of batting collapse (so-called batting collapse, when players have trouble scoring runs). These also happen less often in the 20-over format.
The expanded coaching system is also helpful, including previously absent options to specialize batsmen and the so-called openers who start the game.
Game modes
Cricket Captain 2022 lets you play solo or against other players in online PvP matches.
Technical aspects
The Childish Things team has prepared new stadium models and an improved match engine based on player feedback and statistical data. In addition, the interface and keyboard control have been improved, and the save files have been compressed to save disk space.
