Crash City Mayhem is the European version of the game released in January 2012 on the Japanese market as Runabout 3D: Drive: Impossible. Developers from the Climax Entertainment studio in collaboration with Ghostlight decided to make small modifications to meet the expectations of players in the Western markets.

The player plays the role of an agent working for a mysterious organization fighting a dangerous terrorist syndicate. The protagonist specializes in spectacular actions with the use of various vehicles - from cars to armoured weapons. His task is to carry out the missions assigned to him (e.g. rescuing hostages, laying bombs, chasing villains), most of which require fast driving through the crowded streets of the city and stuntmen skills (jumping, marking obstacles, rooftopping, etc.).

Events are shown from the classic racing arcade perspective from behind the vehicle (TPP). Additional information, including current speed and position on the map, is displayed on the additional (lower) console screen. The driving model used in the Crash City Mayhem has a strictly dexterity character. The developers also decided on a simple damage system. Many parts of the environment can be demolished or destroyed in the course of play, but each vehicle is of limited strength.

The level of visuals in Crash City Mayhem does not deviate from the standards of this type of production released on the Nintendo 3DS console. Attention is drawn to the vivid colors and models of vehicles, in which there are many similarities to authentic cars (e.g. Ford Mustang) and combat machines. The whole experience is complemented by a dynamic soundtrack.
