Driver: Renegade is the first edition of a popular race game series released on portable console Nintendo 3DS. You play as a former cop John Tanner, who takes an impossible task of clearing the corrupted city of New York off dangerous criminals. The game was created by Ubisoft company.
After years of undercover police work John Tanner decides to take matters into his own hands, without paying attention to boundaries of the law. His ultimate goal is to clear New York off corruption and take down a local cartel, headed by five undercover bosses. He finds aid in the person of Senator Ballard, who in exchange for saving his life, grants Tanner protection and provides access to secret information. The story is set somewhere between the first two Driver games.
In Driver: Renegade players spend most of the time driving dozen kinds of cars. You drive across New York while engaged in car pursuits, tailing suspects, or delivering important documents. As you progress in the game you can improve your vehicle – both in terms of looks and performance.
The game has attractive 3D graphics. The city surprises players with its magnitude and openness, and the game itself with stylistics. The story unfolds through comic-like, static cutscenes, similar to the ones from Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (DS, PSP). The game uses one of the main strengths of Nintendo 3DS – the console’s 3D technology.
