Contact Vector Description
Contact Vector for PC is a real time tactical strategy taking place in a science-fiction universe. The game is a debut project of Magnosphere.
Plot
The action of the game takes place in an altered future, in a time where humanity has left the solar system and took over and colonized numerous space systems around the galaxy. The campaign sees us assume the role of a commander of an interception fleet guarding the border of the human-inhabited part of the space. Suddenly, our unit receives a strange signal – a residue following a hyperspace jump performed in the far reaches of space, in an area officially deemed as lifeless and unavailable for navigation. The event suggests that these facts are no longer true. Our unit is sent on an expedition which quickly takes a turn for the worse, as humanity becomes the subject of aggression of a powerful galactic empire.
Mechanics
Contact Vector offers two command modes. First one is a typical RTS mode that sees a lot of dynamic action, while the second one contains turn-based elements – the game pauses every fifteen seconds, allowing the player to think out his moves and send new orders.
The game focuses on large scale combat rather than base-building or resource gathering. To win, the player has to utilize the depth of the three-dimensional battlefield and hide his units from enemy ships and sensors. The players have the ability to modify their ships and choose the desired armament. Nevertheless, most clashes are won thanks to tactics and strategy rather than more firepower.
Even if the game is battlefield oriented, we are left with a number of elements typically found in the strategy game genre. We can conduct research, build ships, or conscript new soldiers and crewmembers. Moreover, our duties include supplying the fleet with ammunition, parts, or other needed goods. The authors introduced an online mode that enables us to clash with other players.
