The Mandate PC

The Mandate for PC is a combination of RTS and RPG with a science-fiction setting. The game has been developed by Perihelion Interactive.

Plot

The action of the game takes place in the distant future, in which humanity has colonized countless planetary systems. In the game, the society model resembles the one from 1800’s Russia. Until recently, all the sectors have been ruled by a mighty Emperor, however, after his sudden death, the condition of the monarchy begins to deteriorate, and some of its sectors object the crown princess and separate from the empire. A player assumes the role of an infamous captain, who receives the chance to once again prove his honor by crushing the rebellion.

Mechanics

In terms of the gameplay mechanics, The Mandate combines the typical for RTS games army and colony management with the in-game story and necessity to make moral choices modeled after RPG games. During the game, one has to command his soldiers during battles, dispatch them on multiple missions, and explore the world shaped by one’s decisions. Each protégé is a unique person with different skills, personality, and life’s philosophy. Their attitude towards the player depends on his decisions and interactions.

During the war, a player has to wage tactical space battles and board enemy ships. In the latter case, a player is taken to the inside of a hostile vessel, and he can command his troops as in RTS games. The scale of the conflict is not limited to single battles – players can conquer entire sectors, colonize new systems, construct star bases, and build huge armadas.

In The Mandate for PC, all the units controlled by the AI can independently execute orders and make minor decisions, thus as the empire grows in strength, a player can delegate more tasks to his trusted associates in order to focus only on the most important aspects of the ongoing war and setting general objectives.
