Coffee Talk is an unusual visual novel from Toge Productions. Following the example of other independent teams, the developers first distributed their work through itch.io as a demo version and then released it on digital distribution platforms.
Plot
Coffee Talk is set in the alternative reality of 2020 and takes us to the Seattle. The population of the city consists not only of people, but also of many fantastic races like elves and orcs, as well as aliens. They have their own stories and dilemmas, which they share during their visits to the café run by the main character.
Mechanics
According to the formula of the genre, Coffee Talk focuses on learning the story of the characters, and it is up to the player to decide how their fates will turn out. However, while in typical visual novels, the choice of dialogue lines determines the development of the plot, in this game it is the customer service that plays the central role. We have a wide range of coffee and tea types to choose from, as well as a wide range of possibilities to create latte art. The prepared drinks and the way we treat the characters visiting our place determine the fate of the characters.
Technical aspects
Like other visual novel games, Coffee Talk features two-dimensional visuals. The authors used pixel art, inspired by the adventure games of the 1990s and both the background and the character models have simple animations. The game is accompanied by relaxing music, consisting of jazz and deliberately kept in low quality (lo-fi).
