Code: Realize - Bouquet of Rainbows

Code: Realize - Bouquet of Rainbows is a set of two visual novel adventure games from the Code: Realize series. The compilation features two games that originally debuted on PlayStation Vita – Code: Realize – Guardian of Rebirth and Code: Realize – Future Blessings. The games were developed by Otomate Studios, a subsidiary of Japanese company Idea Factory. As the name of the studio suggests, the developers are specializing in developing otome games. Otome is a subgenre of visual novels that recently became more popular in the West. In these games, the main female protagonist – usually a young girl – becomes surrounded by handsome men with characteristic, stereotypical personality. Otome games usually feature many different endings and are focused mostly on romances between the protagonist and selected men.

Plot

Code: Realize - Guardian of Rebirth

The story of Code: Realize focuses on a young girl named Cardia who lives alone in a ruined house in the suburbs of London. She must live a lonely life and she cannot fall in love because an unknown poison can be found in her blood. This poison kills all living creatures it comes in contact with. One day, Cardia’s house is assaulted by law enforcers who intend to kidnap Cardia. A thief named Arsene Lupin helps Cardia escape. Together they embark on a journey in search of the girl’s missing father who might help her. During the journey, the pair encounters other characters inspired by nineteenth century’s stories and legends.

Code: Realize - Future Blessings

Code: Realize - Future Blessings is a so-called fan disc – a set of additional scenarios and scenes that expand the story of the original game with new features (characters and events) and with alternative endings. Before playing this game, it is recommended to first play the original Code: Realize. This will make it easier to understand the world of the game and the relations between its characters. The game features four campaigns with a story that expands the plot of the original game. They also present further adventures of its protagonists. The first campaign takes place after the original game and it focuses on Cardia. The second and the third one present the already known events from the perspective of Finis and Sholmes. The last campaign is a completely new story that was only signalized in Code: Realize.

Mechanics

Both games are typical visual novels. Dialogue texts are displayed on the screen and illustrated with two-dimensional, modestly animated character portraits and backgrounds. In Code: Realize – Guardian of Rebirth the players can make important decisions in key points of the story. These decisions can lead to one of a few alternative endings.

In Code: Realize – Future Blessings the scenarios are linear and they mostly lack any important decisions. The players have access to all four campaigns from the beginning and to a gallery of unlocked illustrations

Technical aspects

The graphics of both games were created by artists who worked on the first Code: Realize. All character voices were dubbed by professional Japanese actors.
