Close Combat III: The Russian Front Description
The third part of a very good series of strategy games set in the realities of World War II. Close Combat III: Russian Front this time makes it possible to take sides of the conflict: the Soviet Army or the Armed Forces of the Great Reich, but unlike in Close Combat II despite our efforts and victories in individual battles we have no influence on the course of the war, and so everything ends in the ruins of Berlin.
Clearly improved AI of our troops (especially tanks) which are better directed to designated areas. The units try to cover the set distance along the shortest possible route. There is no longer a situation (or rarely) that the armoured troops position themselves towards the opponent with side armour, or they turn around.
The AI of the computer has also improved. The armoured unit detecting our infantry tries to eliminate it with fire at a distance, and not, as in the previous part, it rushes "head to head, neck" into the arms of our infantry.
The sound in the game is a separate topic. The sounds of all weapons used by the Red Army and German army units were faithfully rendered. The execution of the order ends with its "voice" confirmation by the given branch; of course in the native language of the given formation. It is mainly thanks to the sound that the atmosphere of the game is really unique. Soldiers scream, panic, joyfully announce their victories, throw themselves into a battle frenzy - of course with a cry on their lips!
In spite of the above mentioned lack of possibility to influence the situation of the whole eastern front, the game is worth recommending. It is an excellent "school of tactics" not only for lovers of World War II struggles, but also a great compendium of knowledge about the type of weaponry used by the German and Soviet armies in 1941 - 1945.

Close Combat 3, Best Wargame of Its Time, Focused on Soldier Psychology and the Eastern Front
With ratings of 90%, Close Combat 3 was one of the best-rated strategy games of 1999. No wonder - it was the peak of popularity for the series, which wanted to show pixelated soldiers as something to be scared of.
