Chronicle of Innsmouth: Mountains of Madness is the second installment of the series of point & click adventure games based on the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft, launched in 2017. The game, which is a prequel to the first part of the series, entitled Chronicle of Innsmouth, was developed by independent studio PsychoDev.

Plot

Chronicle of Innsmouth: Mountains of Madness was inspired by the short story The Shadow over Innsmouth and the novel At the Mountains of Madness. The action of the game takes place ten years before the events presented in the first installment of the series, in the 1930s. The main character is a private detective Lone Carter, who, after waking up on the beach near the Innsmouth, struggles with terrifying visions and nightmares. After returning to his hometown Arkham, the protagonist finds another mystery to solve. Trying to explain the disappearance and the ritual murder, Carter gets entangled in a plot that will put his sanity to the test.
