Chrome 2 is a continuation of the famous Polish futuristic shooting from 2003. Techland in Wroclaw is responsible for its creation. The action is set in the distant future, at a time when mankind has colonized many planets, real power over the world rests in the hands of powerful corporations, and death does not have to be irreversible.
Clever scientists have created a device that allows you to make a digital copy of the self and then transfer it to another body. Of course, such a procedure for the cheapest should not be allowed and only the richest can afford it. As it turns out, however, sometimes the average person is also able to smile. This is what happened to our hero, who at the very beginning learns that he was murdered. He gets a chance to return to the living world if he agrees to work as a mercenary and soldier for a mysterious corporation. The choice is simple: either agree to offer him the conditions, or be deleted from the data carrier and go not too far. After the transfer of personality, the hero has to perform a number of tasks assigned to him by the corporation. In the meantime, he is conducting a private investigation in order to find out who killed him and what are the real motives of his employers. Quite quickly, he gets entangled in a complicated interplanetary intrigue, in which a lot of big organizations are involved. It is only up to him on whose side he will stand.
As in the first part, the main advantage of Chrome 2 is the vast expanses of space, and the authors have filled them with a living world like those known from MMOs. The gameplay is non-linear, so the player has much more freedom than in the original. With the ability to take over different bodies, Chrome 2 requires a slightly more tactical approach to solving the problems encountered. For example, in order to neutralize the giant walking machine, we have to enter the engineer's body, which has a deactivator installed to protect the moss of the power field.
The authors were tempted to introduce to the game powerful mosses, the size of which exceeds even those known from the game Shadow of the Colossus. On our way we will meet many such a moss. However, not all of them need to be eliminated. Some will turn out to be much more useful in combat when we sit behind their control cockpit.
There was no shortage of the well known from the previous part of the system of implants and implants increasing the coefficients, our body is stuffed with the latest achievements of genetics, cybernetics and bionics (e.g. exoskeletons). Hundreds of different types of weapons and a wide range of vehicles, gliders, ships and combat machines are at the player's disposal. All of this will be used to fight against the cunning opponent who reacts to our previous actions in the game. All these "toys" are also available in multiplayer mode for 64 players.
The game is based on the flagship production of Techland or Chrome Engine in version 2007. It implements a huge number of features improving the quality and realism of the graphics displayed, such as depth of field, dynamic shadows, advanced lighting effects, changing weather conditions and time of day. Great emphasis was placed on the simulation of physical phenomena occurring in our world, the authors tried to preserve the natural behavior of liquid, smoke, fire, electricity and wind. A new system has also been developed to map body movements, including skeleton, muscles, facial expressions and even clothing.
