A survival-horror reminiscent of the first installments of the Resident Evil series, in which players take control of two daredevils sent to a laboratory on an island. There, they have to face an alien creature. The game is a continuation of the arcade game titled Chaos Heat released in 1998.

Story

In a laboratory on one of the Chilean islands there is a series of strange events that lead to a sudden rise in temperature. Disturbing signals are convincing the company's authorities to send a pair of agents, Mitsuki and Rick, to carry out the necessary investigation. On the spot, it turns out that a strange parasite, the effect of biological experiments, has taken control of the laboratory, turning scientists and the surrounding fauna into dangerous beasts. The story presented in Chaos Break refers to the events also shown in the arcade shooter Chaos Heat.

Mechanics

Eon Digital Entertainment's production enables us to control two, differently armed characters. Mitsuki is equipped with two energy guns, while Rick has a slower and stronger gun of a heavier calibre. The mechanics of the game are based on schemes well known from other survival-horrors released at that time. Players navigate through lab areas, eliminating enemies they encounter, collecting items needed to open doors, and solving simple logic puzzles. The camera presents the action from the perspective of a third person, holding slightly above the main character's head. Compared to such hits as Dino Crisis or Resident Evil, Chaos Break has a lot more shooting, and the exploration itself has a higher pace.

Technical aspects

One of Chaos Break's strengths is the soundtrack. The creators, using melodies and sound effects created specifically for the game, successfully build the atmosphere of horror and anxiety.
