Championship Manager 97/98 is the next (after Championship Manager 2) installment of this popular series of virtual football managers. Authors from the Sports Interactive studio tried to improve the features known from their predecessor, thanks to which the players received a very successful product. We have a choice of nine world leagues (the Polish edition of the game also has our own national league), and for the next victories we lead one of nearly 2,500 thousand real teams. We select players from among twenty thousand players (each with their own, extensive statistics).

As far as strictly managerial options are concerned, there are quite a lot of novelties. Before the match we now choose the team captain, the penalty shooters, free shooters and corner shooters (in CM2 we only determined who will be the team leader). The so-called Bosman's right has appeared (the possibility of a player moving to any club after exhaustion of the contract), the time for which we conclude individual contracts has been extended (1 - 8 years), and on the occasion of important matches (cups, matches for the national championship) we can decide on possible additional bonuses for the victory. The creators of the game have also prepared a number of new football photos, decorating the background of the program. If we add to this an increase in realism (and sometimes drama) of subsequent matches and a faithfully reproduced transfer market, we will surely get a great title for all those who dream about the role of a real football manager.
