Plot
Castle Doombad allows you to play as a stereotypical villain from classic fairy tales. We do exactly what tradition requires from us - we kidnap the princess. Of course, all the heroes in the kingdom cannot allow a girl to become a pretty, though noisy, decoration in our gloomy castle. That's why the heroes grab their weapons and set out to rescue the princess. It is our job to prevent them from fulfilling their ambitions.
Mechanics
The presented plot has been transformed into a fairly classic tower defense strategy. The action takes place in real-time and our fortress is constantly under the attack of the heroes. We fight against them by constructing various traps and obstacles. By killing heroes, we earn money that we can spend on buying upgrades.
Castle Doombad, however, has a few elements that add something new. Maps are built like those in platformers. They are 2D and multi-level, and enemies have to go through each floor in search of a staircase or ladder leading to a higher level. Moreover, we are not limited only to traps and stationary obstacles. We can also summon monsters that face the invaders. The collected gold is also used to unlock new types of monsters and to improve existing ones.
All this makes the game more attractive, but Castle Doombad's strength is the successful implementation of classic tower defense mechanisms. The game offers a multitude of different types of enemies, monsters and traps, and has been carefully balanced. Winning isn't easy, but the level of difficulty increases gradually and we are never thrown at the deep end.
