C-12: Final Resistance is a three-dimensional action game set in a futuristic setting. The game was released in 2001 as one of the last high-budget PS1 titles. The studio SCE Cambridge Studio (later renamed Guerilla Cambridge) was responsible for its development, having already worked on Killzone: Mercenary and the MediEvil series.
Story
Action of C-12: Final Resistance takes place in the distant future, in a world attacked by aggressive aliens who want to plunder the planet from coal resources. The main protagonist is lieutenant Riley Vaughan, a soldier who undergoes the procedure of getting a set of technologically advanced implants. This enables him to hold his ground against the alien invaders.
Mechanics
The title is an action game using a third-person perspective by default, although the player can also switch to the first-person view. The protagonist moves through futuristic locations, performing a number of tasks assigned to him by his superiors. Among the mission objectives we can find saving civilians, activating switches or simply exterminating hostile hordes. Initially, Lieutenant Riley has only an energy sword at his disposal, but with time his arsenal is expanded with various types of firearms.
Technical aspects
C-12: Final Resistance was one of the last high-budget games released on PS1. For this reason, the game's visuals stand out positively compared to other representatives of the genre released on the same console.
