A simulation game about caring for forest insects, inspired by the popular Tamagotchi toys. In Bugaboo Pocket we can feed our insect friends, play with them and engage in various interactions displayed as mini-games. We must also clean up after them and ensure they can live comfortably.

Bugaboo Pocket is a simulation game, inspired by classic Tamagotchi pocket devices, in which we take care of insects. It was developed by the independent California studio Elytra Games and represents its debut project.

Gameplay

Bugaboo Pocket allows us to become a scientist overseeing the reconstruction of forest life after a fire. The history of the forest is conveyed through cut-scenes, as well as entries in our diary and acquired items. As we make progress, we expand the compendium of insects and in return we receive various rewards.

Taking care of insects

Among the insects present in the game, we will find both terrestrial and flying as well as aquatic ones. Taking care of individual creatures primarily involves the need to feed them, play with them, and clean up after them. Many interactions are presented in the form of mini-games, and each of them influences our insects in various ways.

Our insects can lay eggs, gradually increasing the population of a given species inhabiting the regenerating forest. As we progress, we also earn currency that allows us to purchase furniture for the habitat of a given specimen.

It is also worth noting that even if we are not particularly good at the game, there is no risk to cause the death of a given insect here. All the creatures die only from old age.

Graphics

The two-dimensional graphics of Bugaboo Pocket were created using pixel art technique. The game allows us to choose between different screen overlays, imitating the appearance of Tamagotchi.
