Brutal Fate is an old-fashioned FPS game which develops the ideas from the Doom series and mods to the games from this series. The game was developed by Marcos Abenante, more commonly known as Sergeant Mark IV, the author of the cult mod Brutal Doom.

Plot

The action of the game takes place in 2251. We play the role of a sergeant who is the commander of the G.O.A.S.M.C. unit. Together with our brothers-in-arms we are sent on a mission to investigate the reason for the loss of contact with the colony located on Kallisto, the second largest moon of Jupiter.

When after a four-month voyage from Earth our ship lands, a terrifying picture is revealed to the soldiers. At first glance, the entire staff, as well as the colonists, were murdered. Whaat is worse, the condition of many bodies indicates that the murders were performed in vile rituals. It soon turns out that it brought demonic beings from other dimensions to the reality of mortals.

Shortly afterwards, the battalion ship explodes, killing half the crew. Soldiers without an escape route will have to find a way to stay alive on Kallisto.

Mechanics

Brutal Fate is developing ideas from Brutal Doom mod. So we get a first-person shooter, in which the gameplay focuses mainly on fighting hordes of enemies. The pace of action is murderous - both the player's character and the enemies move very fast, and during skirmishes we often have to face dozens of demons and cultists.

The game offers an extensive arsenal of weapons, including combat rifles, shotguns, grenade launchers, smart bullets, laser guns, atomic bombs and even sharpened poles. Enemies are also very diverse, with unique attacks and abilities.

During the game we explore huge levels, full of alternative paths and hidden secrets. An additional attraction is the fact that during the mission we find soldiers who then follow us and obey our orders.

Game modes

The game offers a single player campaign, cooperation mode and PvP gameplay, where we can compete with other people.

Technical aspects

Brutal Fate was built on the GZDoom engine, which is a modern interpretation of the technology from the first two instalments of the Doom series. Graphics is kept in retro style - maps are three-dimensional, but weapons, enemies and many objects are in the form of 2D sprites.

At the same time, the scale of the maps, the level of detail and the visual effects go far beyond what the early Doom installments offered. An additional advantage of basing the game on the GZdoom engine is the fact that thanks to this Brutal Fate is very friendly to mods.
