Break the Game is an independent production created by Simon Fredholm, founder of Insanity Games. This title is a 2D platformer with elements of a shooter, in which we play the role of a player. Our task is to help Kevin, a little blue square with self-awareness, escape from the game.

Plot

In Break the Game we take on the role of a player who incorporates a new game and finds out that all characters in it are gifted with awareness and are aware of our existence. We're taking control of a little blue square with eyes, Kevin. Kevin wants to escape the game, because its creator is merciless for his creations, which seem to him to be incomplete and defective. Our job is to help with this escape.

Mechanics

Break the Game is a 2D platform game with shooting elements. The main task of our character is to jump over obstacles, solve simple puzzles and occasionally shoot enemy robots.

Break the Game is largely based on jumping mechanics. We have a normal jump and a double jump at our disposal. If we have to get somewhere really high, we can bounce back from the squares specially designed for this purpose, which act as launchers making us fly up.

Jumping is very useful if we consider the construction of maps. In Break the Game, our character moves more than right/left in up/down planes. We often have to avoid high obstacles, climb higher levels, or vice versa - descend to lower levels. On the boards there are also hidden secrets, which in return offer additional pixels (currency grove) and funny easter eggs.

Apart from terrain obstacles, opponents in the form of robots are additional threat. To defeat them, the game gives us several types of weapons. Some of them will be found during exploration and others will be bought with pixels. Fights in Break the Game can be dynamic and require us to avoid or shoot down enemy missiles. We shoot with a cursor that points in the direction of our shot, like in Enter the Gungeon (only from a different perspective).

If we die, we find ourselves in the place between the worlds where Satan resides. For every death we get special coins, which are useful only when we bargain with the devil. From this place we can directly move to the location where we finished the game.

Game modes

Break the Game offers only single player mode to play.

Technical aspects

The world in Break the Game takes us on a graphically simple map, consisting mainly of variations on a square.
