Brawl of Ages for PC is a free-to-play strategy game that combines elements from card games, real time strategies, and MOBAs. Gameplay focuses on dynamic duels where players have to destroy their opponent’s base. In combat, players use cards from their decks in order to summon new units, create buildings, or cast spells. The game was developed by BNA Studios, LLC and published by S2 Games, LLC, creators of Heroes of Newerth and Strife. Brawl of Ages has optional microtransactions.

In terms of gameplay mechanics, Brawl of Ages is almost indendical to Battle Islands: Commanders from DR Studios. However, both games differ in terms of setting: Brawl of Ages is set in a fantasy world, whereas Battle Islands: Commanders is a World War II themed game.

The Plot

Being a multiplayer-only game, Brawl of Ages for PC has no plot or story. The game’s universe is based in an unspecified fantasy world. Our army can consist of flying demons, heavily armoured knights, Egyptian priestesses-enchantresses, or even gun-wielding rats and cybperpunk warriors with futuristic rifles.

Mechanics

In terms of mechanics, Brawl of Ages for PC combines elements of strategy and card games. Gameplay is based on online duels where each player has to destroy the opponent’s base in order to win.

Each duel takes place on a small map divided into two parts by a river. Players’ bases made of two watchtowers and the main tower called the Throne, are located on the opposing banks of the river. There are two passages on the river, the upper one and the lower one. They both are used by ours (and our opponents’) units. Our goal is to create an army capable of annihilating our opponent’s forces, destroying the watchtower that guards one of the passages, and finally destroying the enemy Throne.

Unlike in classic real-time strategies, we do not have direct control over our units in Brawl of Ages for PC. After playing a card, we only decide where on the map our unit will be summoned. The game’s artificial intelligence will later direct it on the closest path to our opponent’s base. That unit will attack any enemy target on its way. We can also place defensive structures, buildings that will produce new units, totems, and spells on the map along with the summoned warriors. Totems and spells have their own unique feature. We can cast them on any place on the map, while units and buildings can only be placed on a friendly territory. To play a card we have to spend a defined amount of mana points. Mana regenerates steadily during the match, but after two minutes a special mode called Mana Mania starts. It significantly increases the mana regen speed, making the duel more dynamic.

If no player manages do destroy the opponent’s throne in three minutes, the one who has more watchtowers wins. If both of them have the same number of remaining defensive structures, two minutes overtime called Sudden Death begins. Whoever loses a tower first, loses the game. The winner is rewarded with Seals that allow him or her to take part in a reward raffle. Players can win new cards and earn Valor, a currency that we can spend on cards.

Game Modes

Brawl of Ages for PC offers a couple of one versus one game modes: Standard (duel with a randomly selected player), Conquest (taking part in a battle after battle until we win ten times or loose three times), Smash Party (two players fight each other and two others observe and comment on voice chat), Friendly Challenges (duel with a friend from our friendlist), and Practice (training against A.I.).

Technical Aspects

Brawl of Ages for PC has simple, colorful visuals that bring mobile games to mind. New skins and clothing colors can be bought for Gems which can be bought for real money.
