Blocky Roads is a representative of the car platformer genre, represented on the AND and iOS platforms by such successful games as MotoHeroz. The game was made by Dogbyte Games studio, the developers of Offroad Legends, Redline Rush and 8-bit Ninja, and published by Crescent Moon Games, known for example from Ravensword: Shadowland.

Story

The game offers a simple plot, making the car-platform struggle more meaningful. Namely, the aim of the game is to find all the elements of the farm, scattered around the world as a result of a sudden catastrophe, and to reconstruct it.

Mechanics

The gameplay is very standard. We control the vehicle by accelerating or braking. This helps us avoid crashing into objects, and traps. The routes (twelve in total) resemble obstacle tracks and are full of hills, bridges, hills, chasms and objects that can end our trial prematurely. It is very important to get as many coins as possible during the ride. We spend them on vehicle upgrades, making it lighter and faster, as well as equipping it with more fuel. Thanks to this, our vehicle is able to reach further and further parts of the routes.

Game modes

The Story mode, in which we rebuild a destroyed farm, is the most basic game mode. We can do that by driving one of the nine available cars, which differ not only in appearance, but also in statistics. After completing the third mission, we unlock the editor which allows us to design our own machine, block by block (cars can then be shared with the community). In addition, the gameplay is diversified by the challenge mode, played on ten special routes.

Technical aspects

Blocky Roads boasts a great, pixeled graphic style, taken directly from the best-selling Minecraft. However, the whole is maintained in 2.5D. The game has very smooth animations and a very responsible, albeit sensitive, control system.
