Black Dahlia is a detective adventure game, maintained in the noir convention. The player takes on the role of an agent of the governmental COI organisation, who encounters the trail of the dangerous organisation "Brotherhood of Thule". The plot of the game produced by Take 2 Interactive is a blend of fictional and authentic events from the 1940s.

Action of the game consists of three main threads. The first tells the story of the famous Hollywood actress Elizabeth Short, the title Black Dahlia. Her death - a brutal murder - has remained an unexplained police case to this day. The second plot tells the story of a person named Torso Killer, considered to be the first serial murderer of America. These two stories are related to the secret organization "Brotherhood of Thule", which, according to specialists, really existed - this is the third plot of the title.

The task of the player, as an agent of the governmental organisation COI, is to investigate the national threat from German spies. His investigation starts with checking the secret organization and then covers the serial killer and the title character.

The game contains many drastic scenes, shown in previously rendered locations. The whole game was made using a fully three-dimensional graphic engine and full-motion video technique, which gave a very good visual effect for those days. Interestingly designed puzzles are not the easiest, so the knowledge of English and a bulky mind are features that will help in solving the next puzzles.
