Bit Blaster is an uncomplicated shoot'em up production. Nickervision Studios, a one-man company founded by the independent developer Adam Nickerson, is responsible for its development. The game made its debut on mobile devices, and over time it was released on PC as Bit Blaster XL.
Mechanics
In Bit Blaster the player sits at the helm of a spacecraft moving on a two-dimensional board. Their task is to stay alive for as long as possible - the creator of the game does not set any other goals for the user. The key to success is first of all to eliminate hosts of opponents as quickly as possible, although reflexes and skilful vehicle manoeuvring with the use of the brake and afterburner are also useful to avoid a collision with one of the enemies.
The creator puts at our disposal an extensive arsenal - despite the fact that we start the game with basic weapons, over time we pick up power-ups (such as the possibility of using bombs and shooting lasers or homing rockets, as well as shields increasing our endurance). Although the ship automatically showers enemies with a hail of bullets (there is also a possibility of switching to manual mode), the ammunition is not endless - we need to collect it on our own. Similarly, we collect coins, which we use to buy new machines with different appearance, speed of movement, firing speed and resistance.
Game modes
Bit Blaster features only single player mode. Replacement of multiplayer are leaderboards, on which we can show off our scores.
Technical aspects
Two-dimensional visuals of Bit Blaster implement the pixel art technique. The whole thing adopts retro style, and the effect is intensified by the modest color palette. All this is complemented by a chiptune soundtrack composed by the artist known as Spiff Tune.
