Birth is an indie puzzle game developed by Madison Karrh. It is her third game, atmospherically being similar to her previous projects, Landlord of the Woods and Whimsy. It was published with help from Wings Interactive, exclusively on Steam. It was also presented during the 10th Day of the Devs, in November 2022.

Plot

We play as a resident of a big city suffering from loneliness despite the crowds around him. To fill the void, the protagonist decides to create a being made of bones - a friend or a partner to bring meaning to their life. They begin their construction with the spine. The player's job is to find more materials used to create the companion.

Mechanics

Birth is a point & click game revolving around exploring the world and solving simple puzzles. The player must traverse the city, enter cafes, libraries and museums in search of resources he could use to create their new friend. Each building holds some intriguing characters we can interact with. In return for solving their puzzles we gain friend fragments. While searching different locations we can also come across hidden tokens. Once we pick them up, we can spend them on secret storylines.

Technical aspects

Birth makes use of a stylized 2D artstyle, which, despite its somber atmosphere, is calming and soothing. The subdued soundtrack also adds to the charm. It is made up of remixed versions of well-known tunes, such as Claude Debussy's Clair de lune.
