Beyond These Stars is a city builder strategy game in which we build civilization on the back of Kewa - a giant whale travelling the stars. We have to peacefully co-exist with the creature, obtain resources, develop technologies and discover secrets of the galaxy.
Beyond These Stars is a real-time city builder strategy and the second game from the independent studio Balancing Monkey Games. It is a sequel of the game Before We Leave, and its creation was supported by the government of New Zealand.
Plot
Wanting to discover the secrets of space, the heroes of Beyond These Stars risk everything to settle on the back of Kewa, a majestic, whale-like creature. This is a living and conscious being with whom we can establish contact. Thanks to the appropriate technology, the inhabitants of Kewa can learn to communicate with it, get to know it and its needs and desires, and then cooperate in a joint extraterrestrial journey.
Gameplay
Just like with the previous game from this studio, we are building and managing a colony on a hexagonal grid. Our attention is focused on terraforming, resource acquisition, discovering new technologies, but also waste management mechanics and by-products, as well as the level of happiness. We create channels, plant trees and take care of maintaining a stable supply chain. At the same time, we try to avoid abusing the environment, because otherwise Kewa may want to get rid of us.
As we journey through the procedurally generated worlds of Beyond These Stars we explore planets to obtain resources, provided Kewa can be convinced to stick around long enough. The enigmatic whale is not the only mysterious creature roaming the solar systems, because we also encounter aliens with whom we can trade.
