Bellfortis

Bellfortis is a strategy game that combines RTS elements with solutions taken from the grand strategy genre. The production was developed by independent studio Rake in Grass, which has in its portfolio such projects as the Jets'n'Guns series and Rampage Knights, and the creators themselves describe it as a "more intense and less time-consuming" alternative to Total War: Medieval II and Crusader Kings III.

The plot

Bellfortis takes us back to the early medieval era, which it treats with a light touch. After the fall of Rome, the young European kingdoms are fighting for dominance over the remaining countries, while at the same time repelling barbarian invasions from the east and north. During the gameplay, we stand at the head of one of the aspiring countries and try to lead it to victory.

Gameplay

Turn-based strategy

The gameplay in Bellfortis takes place on two levels, so to speak. In the first, strategic, we view the political map of Europe and manage our country in turn-based mode. Here you can construct buildings, make diplomacy decisions and win allies, keep an eye on your enemies (by hiring spies) or interfere with their actions, as well as recruit an army and invade countries weaker than yours (or stronger, if you are brave enough).

Real-time tactics

When a battle occurs, the gameplay changes dramatically. The game takes us directly over the battlefield and presents the two armies facing each other in all their glory. The skirmish itself takes place in real time, and victory is determined not only by the composition of our army, but also by the tactics we choose - from the formation and deployment of individual troops to the order in which they are to attack.
