Beat Saber Description
Beat Saber is a rhythm game created by an independent Czech studio Hyperbolic Magnetism. Though they haven't created many major bestsellers, you may know them from Chameleon Run, a highly-reviewed and successful mobile game.
Mechanics
Beat Saber is an unusual VR rhythm game. It's somewhat reminiscent of the Guitar Hero series, which tasks you with pressing correct buttons at the right time on a plastic guitar. The gameplay here is similar, although rather than notes, the player is faced with "beats" (colored cubes). Your objective is to destroy them with two lightsabers - a red one in your left hand, and a blue one in your right hand. The sabers can only destroy beats of the same color. Each cube has one of its sides (down, up, right and left) marked, with your slashes having to match the marked side as well. As if that weren't enough, you must watch out for obstacles being sent your way. When the player does well, the game resembles a dance - you wave your arms around, move your body to avoid obstacles, all to the rhythm of the music.
Technical aspects
Beat Saber's futuristic, neon graphics, though pleasant for the eye, aren't its biggest appeal. As in any rhythm game, its most important feature is the soundtrack. The game offers energetic tracks by Jaroslav Beck, known for composing the soundtrack to LawBreakers, as well as trailer music for various games and films, such as Call of Duty: WWII and StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void. After its initial release in 2018, Beat Saber's music library was gradually expanded with more songs, including licensed hits by well-known artists.
