Beat Hazard 2

Beat Hazard 2 is the second installment of a series of original shoot'em ups that started in 2010. The game was developed by the creators of the original, the independent studio Cold Beam Games.

Mechanics

In Beat Hazard 2 we observe the action from the side, sitting at the controls of the spaceship to eliminate enemy troops, with standard opponents acting as cannon fodder, and powerful bosses as bigger challenges. Our actions are evaluated by a scoring system on an ongoing basis.

As was the case in the first part of the series, the levels are generated procedurally, based on the selected songs. These affect not only the layout of individual stages, but also the placement of opponents and power-ups, as well as the appearance of bosses. In addition, each song unlocks another ship, in which we can set off for battle, such as the small but agile Mosquito or the large and slow but heavily-armored Brute.

The game supports not only popular file formats such as MP3, WMA, FLAC, AGG, ACC, M4A, WAV and AIFF. Thanks to the Open Mic mode, we can also use other music sources such as Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music or YouTube; moreover, there's nothing to stop us from using one of the SHOUTcast Internet stations or a specially composed soundtrack by Johnny Frizza.

Game modes

Beat Hazard 2 lets us play alone or in local cooperation mode. In addition, separate rankings are created for each song, which enables us to compare our scores with those of players from all over the world.

Technical aspects

Beat Hazard 2's colorful two-dimensional graphics are pleasing to the eye; the screen is literally flooded with a variety of light effects during the firefight, and the designs of spaceships and enemies are diverse and inventive.
