A free-to-play online war game developed by Creant Studios. Battleline: Steel Warfare features only a multiplayer mode – the players fight against themselves in online tank battles. The game offers a wide range of armored vehicles: from primitive WWI armor to modern tanks, used in many present-day conflicts. However, balancing of such wide arsenal had to be achieved through forsaking realism.

Battleline: Steel Warfare for PC is a multiplayer war game, blending elements of arcade and strategic games. The title uses a free-to-play model with optional micro transactions. The game was developed by Creant Studios and distributed by Namco Bandai.

Gameplay

The only available mode in the game is multiplayer, in which the players can face other users in online battles. A large set of tanks have been given to the players’ disposal, beginning with primitive models used during WWI, up to modern machines known from present-day conflicts. The balancing of such diverse set of vehicles was possible by forsaking high realism.

The gameplay is propelled by a system allowing to purchase and upgrade tanks. We decide what kind of engines, armors or weaponry should be installed, which allows us to optimize the vehicles for certain situations, such as open battles, defensive maneuvers, silent missions, or reconnaissance. Additionally, a crucial role is played by soldiers’ special abilities which, activated in a right moment, can turn the balance to our favor.

Technical aspects

From the visual side, the game is similar to traditional RTS titles. The action is presented from a top-down camera above the tank, while the controls are arcade and easy to master, practically limited to setting the overall direction, and targeting the enemies. Therefore, it’s hard to be successful at the game without good reflexes. Additionally, all battles influence a single, big online conflict, in which the factions struggle for control over territories on a huge map encompassing the whole Earth.
