Awesomenauts Assemble! is a console port of the MOBA Awesomenauts, which debuted in spring 2012 on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We are dealing with a quite unusual representative of the genre, realized in the form of a classic 2D platformer with elements of fighting game. The Dutch studio Ronimo Games, also known from Swords & Soldiers, is responsible for creating both versions of the game.

Mechanics

Just like the original, Awesomenauts Assemble! features no extensive storyline layer, and during the game we play the roles of powerful intergalactic warriors and compete in subsequent 3 on 3 team battles. The whole uniqueness of the game lies in the fact that the creators from Ronimo Games transferred the apremise of typical MOBA to a classic, side-scroll platformer, which came largely from the will to adapt the game to consoles. The battles take place on two-dimensional maps, filled with a multitude of platforms and dangers, and the participants take on each other with diverse and slightly crazy weapons and gadgets. The aim of the game remains the same, however, to break through to the opponent's base (who tries to prevent us from doing so, for example, by settin up watchtowers) while defending ourselves at the same time.

Players have a gallery of unusual characters at their disposal, each of which has a simple attack and two special skills, which we develop as the game progresses. Despite a large number of different improvements, only three can be selected from each category, which encourages experimentation with different combinations. Compared to the original version of Awesomenauts, the game offers a whole host of fixes and improvements such as improved targeting, modified HUD, better character balance and more refined matchmaking. The biggest novelty, however, is the map, absent in the original, and seven completely new characters (the number of which we can be increased with the help of extremely numerous DLCs).

Game modes

As befits a MOBA game, Awesomenauts Assemble! is intended primarily for multiplayer games, and playing solo - although possible in Practice mode - will not provide us with enough fun, mainly due to the imperfect artificial intelligence of companions. The heart of the gameplay are the online games for up to six players, divided into two teams of three. Interestingly, the game also offers a local cooperation mode for three players on split screen.

Technical aspects

Awesomenauts Assemble! is characterized by extremely colorful and humorous graphics, inspired by crazy cartoons from the 80s of the last century. Also noteworthy is the fast pace of the game and the quality and smoothness of the animation. Except for higher resolution, the visual did not go through significant changes in comparison to the original .
