Shallie Atelier: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea on PlayStation 4 is the sixteenth installment of the Atelier series, which was born in 1997 on PlayStation. The production is a classic jRPG with a turn-based combat system and a plot full of humour and charm characteristic for the cycle. Japanese studio Gust is responsible for creating the game. Experienced developer has been operating on the market since 1993 and over the following years has specialized in the production of RPG games. The band is also known for its Ar tonelico and Surge Concerto brands. Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea is the last part of Dusk's trilogy, which consisted of two previous Atelier games - Atelier Ayesha and Atelier Escha & Logy. The title uses the gameplay systems from both titles, developing them and making numerous improvements to them.
Starting the game we choose one of the two young protagonists - Shallister Argo or Shallotte Elminus. This decision allows us to get to know the story from two different perspectives. Shallistera is a representative of a small clan cultivating ancient alchemy traditions and living far from civilization. The Girl embarks on a journey to help a family tribe in danger of death. Shallotte, on the other hand, runs an alchemical workshop inherited from his deceased father, located in a small oasis in the middle of a dried sea. At the same time, an inexperienced alchemist dreams of fame as an adventurer and wealth. Both heroines meet and decide to cooperate with each other, discovering the secrets of the dying world in which they live.
Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea rejects the system of time limits known from previous titles. Players no longer have to worry about the calendar and deadlines for the execution of individual orders. Instead, players perform missions that are the "life goals" of our character. Their realization results in changes in the world of the game and increases the abilities and statistics of the heroes. Of course, we still perform numerous single quests and feature tasks.
Exploring the world we collect materials for alchemical syntheses and fight against dangerous creatures. For the first time in the series, players are free to operate the camera while exploring the location. Turn-based combat system allows you to use items and special attacks and abilities of characters. In the workshop, we create new items using recipes developed, found or purchased, mixing ingredients and selecting the features they provide.
