Asterigos: Curse of the Stars Description
Asterigos is an action RPG inspired by Greek and Roman myths. It was developed by the independent Taiwanese team Acme Gamestudio.
Plot
Asterigos takes us on a journey to the ruined city of Aphes - a once magnificent metropolis, whose inhabitants have offended the gods and as a result a terrible curse has fallen on it. Hilda, the game's protagonist, finds herself here in search of her lost father. To complete her quest, the protagonist will have to uncover the truth about Aphes' past and try to restore him to his former glory. The decisions she takes along the way will affect both her fate and the future of the ruined city.
Mechanics
In Asterigos the action is observed from a third person perspective (TPP). The game is made up of a series of interconnected levels, which together create a vast territory to explore. During the game we visit grand squares and buildings, as well as gloomy underground or forests surrounding the metropolis.
Wandering through the ruins of Aphes, Hilda faces a hordes of enemies. More than sixty types of monsters and over twenty bosses await defeat. The enemies include werewolves that attack by surprise, axe-wielding brutes, Caledonian boars and brought to life giant statues.
Battles are dynamic, and during them we use two types of weapons, chosen from six available. We fight with sword and shield, daggers, spears, hammer, magic staff or bracers. Each murder weapon has its strengths and weaknesses and is useful in specific situations. For example, while daggers allow us to make fast but relatively weak attacks, the hammer deals the most damage but due to its weight makes the heroine slower, while the staff allows us to attack enemies from a safe distance.
As we progress we gain new skills, which not only increase our combat potential, but also allow us to adjust the warrior's fighting style to individual preferences. With time, we also learn more about the world presented by talking to encountered characters and reading found documents. The journal, in which Hilda notes her observations, is also a valuable source of information.
Technical aspects
Graphics of Asterigos is kept in a colourful, manga style. The game runs on Unreal Engine 4 technology and makes good use of it.
