Arma III Description
Bohemia Interactive Studio specializes in developing tactical FPS games, characterized by highly realistic representation of modern conflicts. ArmA III is the next installment of the series originated in 2006. The game creators have stayed true to PC as a platform, while introducing a number of technological innovations, including the next generation of Real Virtuality graphics engine.
Story and Game modes
The story of ArmA III for PC is set in a near future. After years of intense warfare in the Middle East, Europe has become the last bastion for weakened military forces of NATO. The heads of the Treaty seek for an opportunity to change the situation through a desperate mission far behind enemy lines. A small island in the Mediterranean Sea hides a military secret that may be crucial for the outcome of the ongoing conflict. Special forces and researchers are sent on the island. An operation code-named Magnitude begins. Single player includes both story-based campaign and sandbox mode (no victory conditions). Moreover, the Czech developers did not forget about gameplay devoted to multiplayer enthusiasts. Dedicated servers (separate for Windows and Linux systems) are open for both competitive and cooperative play.
Gameplay
The goal that the developers set for the game was to give players as much freedom as possible. This is reflected e.g. in broad customization options of uniforms and weapons. Compared with previous installments in the series, ArmA III offers a wider range of available weapons and vehicles. Players can steer different types of airplanes, helicopters, road vehicles, and even ships. The developers improved user interface, making it much easier to use. At the same time, this has not been achieved by simplifying gameplay mechanisms. All features and functions are still present in the game. This time, however, it is just easier to use them. For the first time in history of the series there are also underwater missions.
Technology
The visual side of ArmA III for PC is based on the fourth generation of the graphics engine from Bohemia Interactive, which, among other features, uses PhysX technology . This allowed to significantly improve the simulation aspect of the game and achieve better animations. Moreover, the new technology has made it possible to introduce really vast maps. Players may explore an area of over 320 square kilometers. The game’s world has been modeled on an actual island in the Mediterranean Sea, with much care to geographical fidelity. The developers have also provided tools for modders. Players can create their own missions and scenarios using an intuitive editor.
