Arena Football

Arena Football, released on PS2 and XBOX, is another title in the Electronic Arts' catalog dedicated to American football games. This time, the developers decided to focus on the increasingly popular AFL indoor league. This means that although the game is based on the same engine as the Madden NFL, due to quite large differences in rules, we are dealing with something different. The game features a full set of licensed teams from the 2006 season.

Mechanics

The biggest differences in comparison to classic American football games concern the size of the pitch. Since the matches are played inside the hall, the pitch is much smaller and its length is fifty yards. For this reason, the number of players has also been significantly reduced - each team consists of 8 players. Additionally, there are vertical barriers straight from ice hockey matches. If the ball is bounced back from them, it is still "in the game" and you can continue playing. As a result, the matches are more spontaneous.

Game modes

In terms of game modes, Arena Football doesn't differ much from the Madden NFL series. We can play a single match, tournaments, seasons and train. However, the equivalent of a career in which we manage a team for up to twenty seasons has been simplified. Due to the specific nature of this discipline, we do not participate in the post-seasonal drafts, but only sign contracts with new players.

Technical aspects

As for the graphics, Arena Football looks similar to other American football titles from EA's catalog since both NFL and academic NCAA games use the same engine. Arena Football only received a number of new animations unique to this product. The sound isn't as impressive, e.g. the game is missing live commentary.
