An interactive film developed by the independent team of Penrose Studios. In Arden's Wake: Tide's Fall, the player gets to know the fate of Meena, a teenager who lives with her father on a lighthouse towering over flooded New York. When a parent loses without a trace, the girl decides to go in search of it.
Arden's Wake: Tide's Fall is another work by the independent French team of Penrose Studios developed with VR goggles in mind. As with Allumette, the title is a kind of interactive film. Its prologue, Arden's Wake: The Prologue, could be seen for the first time at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2017; the first full version was shown at the next edition of the event.
Story
Arden's Wake: Tide's Fall takes us to a post-apocalyptic world - as a result of a global cataclysme, most of the Earth's surface is underwater. The main character is Meena, a teenager whose mother died during a violent flood, living with her father in a lighthouse towering over the flooded New York City. When ther second parent disappears without a trace, the girl decides to go in search of him; during the half-hour-long screening the player gets to know her further fate.
Mechanics
While playing Arden's Wake: Tide's Fall the player acts as an observer. However, the title enables us to freely look and move around, as well as focus on selected characters or elements of the scene.
Technical aspects
Like Allumette, Arden's Wake: Tide's Fall features cartoonish visuals. It is noteworthy that the dialogue lines have been fully voiced and the main character is played by Alicia Vikander, a Danish actress known for lead roles in films such as Tomb Raider and Ex Machina; Vikander has also been the executive producer of the project.
