Archaelund is an open-world RPG with a turn-based combat system. It was developed by 4 Dimension Games.

Plot

Archaelund is set in a fantasy world. The once mighty Andorian Empire had been destroyed by a magical calamity and the horrors it brought upon them. The few survivors settled on the wild island of Varannar, establishing four kingdoms, each with their own conflicting ambitions. After centuries, the people discovered the old Andorian continent is now habitable once more. Putting aside their differences, they decide to work together to repopulate their ancestral lands. Their first foothold is the titular region of Archaelund.

We play as a colonist, having arrived in the ruins of Andoria in search of a better life. Facing dangers and investigating the land's secrets, we end up involved in a massive intrigue dating back to the Empire's final days.

Mechanics

Archaelund is set in a vast open world. The player gets to traverse the titular land, meet its inhabitants, complete quests and face numerous dangers. Exploration is first-person and real-time, while combat is top-down and turn-based, on maps covered with a square grid. To succeed, we must correctly position our party members, making good use of their strengths and abilities.

We'll visit various cities, settlements, beautiful outdoors, dark ruins and dungeons. As we progress through the game we recruit allies, develop our party, gather better gear and improve our skills, determined by the characters' classes. They'll start off modestly, as bandits, squires, hunters and beggars, growing stronger over time, becoming knights, scholars, assassins, battlemages.
