Ancient Battle: Alexander is a turn-based historical strategy that takes place in the times of Alexander the Great. The game - released on iOS - was produced by Hunted Cow, a Scottish company, publisher and producer of mobile and browser titles, known primarily from the Ancient Battle and Tank Battle series.
Mechanics
Ancient Battle: Alexander uses an improved gameplay model known from Ancient Battle: Rome. We are dealing here with a rather old-school, turn-based strategy game, in which clashes take place on fields covered with hexagonal grid. Alexander features in improved artificial intelligence of opponents, combat mechanics and flanking control systems.
The player can us a total of 48 units, including battle elephants, which for many fans of history may turn out to be a good excuse to check this game. The combat mechanics have been enriched with advanced tactics, including several different ways of flanking enemies.
Game modes
The game offers three extensive campaigns. The first one consists of eight missions and takes place in ancient Greece and Macedonia. In the second, divided into seven stages, the player invades the Persian Empire. The last chapter takes place in distant India, where the player is faced with five challenges, including the epic battle over the Hydaspes River, often referred to as Alexander the Macedonian's greatest military feat.
Technical aspects
Compared to the previous versions of the Ancient Battle series, the 2D graphics engine received some tweaks. Despite its simplicity, it works perfectly in battle - thanks to the transparent interface, among other things. The fun is accompanied by the soundtrack modeled on ancient music.
