Alive and Undead is a quite original action game by Shortfuse Games studio, which combines the features of old-fashioned sidescrolled platformers with a modern combat system.
The story told by the authors touches upon the subject of the expedition of two heroes, follower of Elvis Presley - Mr. Smith and the forces of darkness conqueror Ms. Wilson. Both characters take on an uneven fight against the vampire curse and the prevailing forces of darkness. The plot, despite seemingly trivial assumptions, also touches such topics as trust and revenge.
The basics of the game system are quite firmly rooted in the once very popular formula. Characters only move to the right in multi-level arenas and have to face more and more enemy groups. However, what distinguishes this production from hundreds of other once known, is the complex elements of cooperation of characters and an interesting combat system. The heroes can help each other, as well as launch much stronger binary attacks. Additionally, each of them has its own fighting style and characteristic weaponry. System features such as the ability to combine attacks into complex combinations and to juggle enemies in the style known from the battles also add to the effectiveness of closer and further clashes.
Graphically, Alive and Undead combines the harsh climate of horror with a dose of pastiche. Some characters are quite exaggerated, but the surroundings and the story itself are dark. The game is also full of brutality and hectolitres of blood flowing through the levels during the crusade of the dangerous duo.
