Airheart: Tales of Broken Wings Description
Airheart for PC is an action title combining classic arcade shooters aspects with roguelike elements. The title is developed by Blindflung, the team responsible for Cloud Chasers.
Plot
The game features a dieselpunk style which resembles fantasy realities of the 1920s. Again, you assume the role of Amelia, the heroine known from Cloud Chasers. In the previous title, together with her father, she made a long journey through the desert in order to find a better life in the flying city of Granaria. Eventually, she did not reach there, which cost her father’s life.
When the game kicks off, Amelia is already a young girl employed in a little garage for small airplanes. She is making a living from catching fish which dwell high in the clouds. The plot focuses on Granaria’s social inequalities. Ecological aspects also play an important role – initially, fish seem to be an inexhaustible natural resource, but the intensive fishing leads to a decline in their population, which begins war between different groups of fishers.
Mechanics
The camera in Airheart put out on PC hangs over the heroine’s airplane. Maps are open and procedurally generated. At the begninning, you concentrate on fishing exclusively. By selling fish, you get money with which you can upgrade your flying vessel, and thus reach better fishing grounds.
As a rookie, all you need to care of is to avoid other units and obstacles. Later, you begin to come across enemy pilots (including bosses), so is it vital to arm up your airplane. The harpoon is also very important. You need to use it in order to catch big fish, tow the defeated enemies’ wrecks, and disassemble them.
Between missions, you visit the base in which you can upgrade the airplane, construct new parts based on acquired blueprints, manage finances, and unravel the plot. With the progress, you discover different landing grounds placed higher and higher, which translates into visiting numerous atmosphere layers. The main objective is to catch the legendary Skywhale which dwells in the place no pilot has ever reached. Whoever performs this glamorous deed, will possess an untold wealth and eternal glory.
