Age of Empires: World Domination is a real time strategy available on mobile devices with the AND, iOS and WP system. The production – developed on the license of the excellent series of strategy games, Age of Empires, owned by the Microsoft corporation – was created by the Singapore studio KLab Global, which previously created, among other titles, the RPG Lord of the Dragons. Age of Empires: World Domination is offered as a free game with microtransactions.
Story
In the game, player takes control of one of the great, historical civilizations and develops its power and tries to take control of the world. The action doesn’t take place in a specific time in history, but one could assume that the Medieval is the background for the battles. Various nations have similar capabilities and because of that, leading each of them can be very challenging.
Gameplay
When first released, Age of Empires: World Domination on the AND, iOS and WP platform offered a chance to take control one of eight nations, including Celts, Brits, Vikings, Japanese, Chinese, Franks, Saracen and Huns. Each faction had its own set of buildings, technology tree, and units. Among the latter were both regular troops as well as historical heroes. There are more than a hundred of them in the game (including King Arthur, Joan of Arc, Oda Nobunaga, Cao Cao, and Attila). They play a vital role on the battlefield and can also improve the speed of kingdom’s development in various areas.
Age of Empires: World Domination is mostly a traditional representative of the RTS genre. During the battles, the player gives orders through a comprehensive command system that allows him to control the whole army as well as single troops in real time. The game is full of typical strategy game mechanics, such as fog of war. The battles are smaller than in the PC installments of the series. Additionally, the gameplay mechanics used in the game allows for immediate adjustment of tactics to fit the current situation on the battlefield. Fans of classic strategy games will be glad to hear that the resource management system is an important aspect of the game – it is used not only for developing the kingdom, but for training and sending soldiers to battle as well.
Kingdom development mechanic is an important aspect of the game. The process consists not only of constructing new buildings and structures that have a positive influence on the power of army, but most of all, of the technological progress which can be achieved using one of several available trees. What is interesting, the player doesn’t have to stick to a single development direction, as it is possible to freely mix the achievements of various cultures, creating a unique image of a powerful, self-sufficient civilization.
Technology
The gameplay in Age of Empires: World Domination on the AND, iOS and WP platform is shown in an isometric perspective, which makes the game more similar to the PC installments of the series. Detailed graphics are making a good impression, successfully combining three dimensional elements with two dimensional ones. The visuals feature a distinctive comic-book like historical stylistics. What’s worth mentioning is that the game interface was developed with touch screens in mind and is based on gestures.
