Against All Odds is an online PvP 2.5D platformer. The game, originally known as Slaughter League, was developed by the British studio Microwave Games and published by Freedom Games.

Plot

Against All Odds doesn't have a story per say. Players are tasked with competing against each other in various events. These are either free-for-all or between two teams of four people, meaning the game supports up to eight players at once.

Mechanics

Against All Odds is rather simple mechanically. The players must run around three-dimensional arenas and avoid deadly traps, which are much more dangerous than other players.

To do so, they must slide, wall jump, jump over pits or swing over them. The characters' movement is heavily inspired by parkour. To win, we must master our character's moveset, be agile and precise.

Each victory rewards us with in-game currency, which can be spent on cosmetic items. The game also features announcers, who provide live, often mocking commentary over our performance.

Game modes

Against All Odds offers three main game modes. The first, racing, tasks us with avoiding traps and reaching the finish line before other players. The second tasks us with gathering the most coins before time runs out. The third, zombie, divides players into infected and healthy teams. The former must infect the healthy players, while the latter must prevent them from doing so.

The game also features an expansive level editor, allowing players to create their own stages and share them with the community. It contains pre-made assets which can be crafted into new constructions and even allows editing the game's scripts, providing near-unlimited freedom.

Technical aspects

Against All Odds is primarily a side-scroller. The camera follows our characters, while the stages scroll alongside them. The visuals are simple and colorful, making it easy to orient yourself and recognize specific stage elements.
