Afterfall Reconquest

Afterfall: Reconquest for PC is the third installment in the series of games that take place in the grim, post-apocalyptic universe of Afterfall. Contrary to two previous entries in the saga that were a cRPG and a survival horror titles, Reconquest is an action-adventure game that presents the action by using a third-person perspective. It was developed by Polish studio Intoxicate that is a part of Nicolas Games.

Plot

The game once again takes place in a world that survived a destructive war, during which new types of weapons decimated Earth. Most of the survivors hid in small settlements deep in the mountains. After some time, when the resources started to deplete, the situations forced the survivors to look for new sources of clear water, grounds that are good for farming and resources that can be used as a fuel or changed into tools.

Afterfall: Reconquest for PC is distributed as three separate episodes. Each of them focuses on a slightly different character and it tells a completely different story. In the first episode the player assumes the role of one of the survivors from the Corvin family. He is tasked with discovering the truth about the real cause of the war, and punishing those responsible for the end of the old world. The key to solving the mystery might be finding a mythical artifact – the Pearl of the Wasteland.

Mechanics

Afterfall: Reconquest for PC is similar to Fallout 3 when it comes to the mechanics and atmosphere. However, the game focuses less on RPG aspects and instead it concentrates mostly on storytelling and action sequences. The title offers large world filled with many story plots, conversations with NPCs and combat with various opponents. As the player progresses through the game, he can improve skills of the protagonist in order to adapt him to harder challenges. Less experienced players can choose from three difficulty levels.

Technical aspects

It is worth mentioning that Afterfall: Reconquest has very unique graphics powered by Unreal Engine 3. The game world is presented almost exclusively with black and white colors supplemented with red blood. This makes the game even grimmer. What’s interesting, the first version of the game, released in the early access initiative, offered traditional, colorful graphics. The final form of the visuals was changed after the suggestions of the community.
