After Reset is a classic cRPG inspired by the first two entries in the Fallout series. The game takes place in the future, on a post-apocalyptic Earth destroyed by a nuclear war. The references to legends of the genre can be seen not only in the plot, but in the isometric perspective and the character development system as well.

After Reset is a post-apocalyptic role-playing game. The style and atmosphere of the game reference genre classic like the first two entries in the Fallout series. The game was developed by an independent group of RPG fans led by Richard Nixon, also known as MrNixon.

Plot

After Reset presents a post-apocalyptic vision of future in which the citizens of Earth are facing terrible consequences of a global nuclear war. The damage was so great that even one century after the nuclear apocalypse the planet remains a place where surviving even a single day requires great effort. One-third of Earth creates the so-called Yellow Zones in which ruined, radioactive cities are inhabited by groups of anarchists. They have a strong position because they control valuable resources like food and clean water. The Red Zones are of similar size. They are inhabited only by unnatural, terrifying mutants. There are many anomalies there and the area is ruled by mutants and aliens. The game starts 132 after the titular nuclear “reset” of the world.

Mechanics

In After Reset the player enters this hostile world as a brave man forced to constantly fight for survival. He must face dangerous mutants, merciless bandits, and deadly anomalies. The gameplay presents an old-school approach to the genre. The game features an isometric perspective and real-time combat based on dice throws. Character development, clearly inspired by S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system and rules known from Dungeons & Dragons, is an important aspect of the game. Character’s combat efficiency is determined by equipment, skills, and attributes.

The game features locations placed on the surface of Earth, transformed into a wasteland filled with ruined cities; and in buildings like abandoned research facilities. Surviving in the hostile world frequently requires using dirty methods like trading stolen information, assassinations etc.

Technical aspects

The dark, grim atmosphere of the game is built not only by graphics but by suggestive music as well. After Reset is powered by Unity 3D Engine. The same technology was used for creating similar games, including Project Eternity and Wasteland 2.
