AFL Evolution 2 is a sports game that treats a rather unique Australian football. The game is another part of the AFL Live series and, similarly to its last installment - the first AFL Evolution - was developed by the Wicked Witch Software studio (also known from the Rugby Challenge 3). The publisher is Tru Blu Entertainment.
Mechanics
AFL Evolution 2 is a mix of sports game and football manager. Here we have the option of playing Australian football and the option of leading the team as its manager. There are 90 real teams, coming from several Australian leagues (apart from AFL we also have AFLW, VFL, WAFL, SANFL, NEAFL and NAB).
Focusing on the game, we control the players directly, just like in the classic sports game (with a top-down view, with the control system being significantly improved compared to the previous version). As a manager, we deal with transfers, finances, drafts, setting training plans, composition and tactics. Here, too, a number of improvements have been made (including a drafts system and free agents).
It is worth noting that players can also create their own teams using special tools - the results of their work can be shared with the community.
Game modes
The basic variant of AFL Evolution 2 is an improved career mode, where we create our own player (we decide on his appearance, background or statistics).
Players also have the option to play a single match or a full season with any team. An interesting option is the AFL Gameday mode, which allows you to play one of the matches that took place in the 2020 AFL Premiership Season (teams' line-ups and statistics are constantly updated).
Multiplayer enthusiasts will find here an improved network module that allows up to eight people to play simultaneously.
Technical aspects
AFL Evolution 2 graphics look decent. Here we have detailed models of players and stadiums and realistic animations. Also noteworthy is a new sports commentary featuring presenters Anthony Hudson and Gary Lyon.
