Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Description
Advance Wars 1 2: Re-Boot Camp is a remake of the first two installments of Advance Wars, a series of turn-based strategy games, first released on the Game Boy Advance in 2001. It was developed and published by Nintendo.
Plot
Advance Wars 1 2: Re-Boot Camp is set during a war between four nations: Orange Star, Blue Moon, Yellow Comet and Green Earth. We play as tactical advisors of Orange Star, responsible for commanding their armies. Soon enough, the nations learn of a mysterious common enemy in form of the Black Hole army, desiring to conquer their territories. The feuding factions must thus ally to defeat Black Hole and its leader, Sturm.
Mechanics
The gameplay of Advance Wars 1 2: Re-Boot Camp takes place on various different maps, shown from a top-down perspective and divided with a square grid. The player must field a large, diverse army and lead it to victory. Although the most common victory conditions are to rout all enemy forces or capture their headquarters, there are also plenty of missions with other objectives.
There are plenty of land, naval and aerial units to choose from, each of which vary in terms of firepower, range and field of view. These include infantry, tanks, transport vehicles, helicopters, fighters, bombers, ships and submarines. We must remember land units are affected by weather conditions, terrain and urban areas. Each is effective against different kinds of enemy unit, having their own strengths and weaknesses. The player can also use their commander's special abilities, the CO Powers, which become available after fully charging their meter. They provide our units with various buffs or allow us to debuff enemies.
When using vehicles and machines we must also pay attention to their fuel level - land units can't move if out of fuel, while aerial and naval units crash or sink. The same applies to ammo, which each unit has a limited supply of; once it runs dry, the unit can't attack until it resupplies.
Game modes
The main attraction of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is its extensive story campaign. It also features an expansive multiplayer, in which up to four players can battle each other.
Technical aspects
Compared to the original games from Game Boy Advance, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp stands out due to its 3D visuals created from scratch. The game makes use of a colorful, bright, cartoonish artstyle.
