Adore

Adore is an action RPG roguelike and the debut project of a Brazilian indie studio Cadabra Games.

Plot

Adore is set in a fantasy world of Gaterdrik. Humans and animal-like creatures used to live in harmony, watched over by Draknar, the patron deity of the latter. One day, however, the land falls under a curse, weakening Draknar and affectign the creatures' behaviour. The world's last hope is Lukha, a young boy able to control the creatures. He leaves his home village and sets off on a dangerous journey, during which he discovers the secrets of Gaterdrik and learns about a conspiracy, aiming to depower and destroy Draknar.

Mechanics

Adore makes use of the top-down perspective. Players traverse through beautiful areas and face hostile creatures. Lukha is not a fighter, using tamed creatures to defend himself. He's bonded with them, meaning he himself loses health whenever one of his creatures dies.

Each creature has its own individual traits; some are glass cannons who deal and take lots of damage, others focus on debuffing. They also have special attacks, usable after filling a special bar. Specific creatures can also synergize, chaining their attacks into effective combos.

The game features a character growth system; we can increase the combat capabilities of both the protagonists (letting him, for example, summon more creatures at once) and the creatures as they both gain experience in combat. As befitting a roguelike, all content is procedurally generated. This applies both to locations, creatures and items. This makes each playthrough different, increasing replayability.

Technical aspects

Adore makes use of a distinctive artstyle resembling watercolour paintings.
