Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Description
A blood-filled third-person perspective action game that takes place in the world of Warhammer 40.000. The title was developed by Relic Entertainment, the creators of popular strategy games like Homeworld, Company of Heroes and Dawn of War.
Plot
In Space Marine, the players assume the role of Captain Titus, a member of one of the legions of the Empire Marines. These big, armored soldiers are famous for their great war skills and brutality. Now they must face an Orc invasion on one of the Empire planets on which the newest war technologies are developed.
Mechanics
A characteristic trait of Space Marine is emphasis put on both shoot-outs and melee fights. During the long-range battles, the players can use various weapons typical for the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Among them, there are bolt pistols, heavy bolters, grenade launchers, and stationary rifles. In close combat, the chainsword becomes very useful. The combat system is balanced – the game lacks complicated sequences, but the battles aren’t limited to a mindless pressing of a single key.
Due to the tactics used by Space Marines – always keep going forward – the game lacks a cover system. It is possible to hide behind the surroundings, but the players must keep in mind that some of them can be destroyed. This forces the players to be constantly on the move. During the missions, the players are accompanied by other Marines, but it is impossible to give them any commands.
The game features an advanced multiplayer mode with a character editor. At the beginning of the multiplayer career, the players can create their own marine by selecting basic traits, armors etc. By reaching new experience levels, new weapons and equipment become available. Once reaching the maximum 41 level, the number of combinations of various pieces of equipment reaches the point of two billion. The game features two multiplayer modes: a team Deathmatch and a fight for control of an area.
Technical aspects
Space Marine features high-quality graphics. The marines and enemies models are faithfully recreated and the music is climatic. The sounds of shoot-outs or body cutting well suit the rest of the game.
