Skies of Fury is an arcade flight simulator developed by Seed Interactive. The game debuted on mobile devices in a free-to-play model, and later also appeared on the Nintendo Switch console (as premium title Skies of Fury DX).
Story
Action of Skies of Fury takes place during the First World War, or more precisely - in April 1917 (known as the "Bloody April" due to the heavy losses suffered by the British Royal Flying Corps). The game enables us to fight both on German and British side, and images, stylized on comic book panels, inform us about subsequent events in which we take part.
Mechanics
In Skies of Fury we observe the action from a camera located behind the plane (TPP). In the course of the game we participate in air battles, and the tasks set before us are to destroy enemy planes, escort allies or to complete a set route in a specified time. When destroying enemy units, we fill up a special bar - after charging it, we can briefly increase our resistance to damage and firepower.
As we progress, we gain new levels of experience - after a level up we can improve the skills of the pilot by unlocking new abilities on an extensive tree. In addition, we gain access to new aircraft - the devs provide us with ten machines from the epoch. Noteworthy is the fact that lootboxes appear in the game - while in the mobile version, the boxes contain cosmetic elements (such as paintjobs and crosshair), and have to be bought for real cash, on the Nintendo Switch console we get them after we level up.
Game modes
In addition to the one hundred missions offered by the story campaign, Skies of Fury also includes a survival mode. The Nintendo Switch version has been enriched with a local multiplayer mode, in which up to four players can cooperate (within the aforementioned survival module), as well as fight with each other for victory.
Technical aspects
Regardless of the platform, three-dimensional graphics of Skies of Fury look decent, mainly due to the use of eye-catching cel-shading technique. While on mobile devices controls are based on the use of touchscreen and motion sensors, console edition makes use of analog sticks, d-pad and buttons.
