3D Ultra Pinball: The Lost Continent is the third installment of the popular arcade series, presenting a slightly different approach to the classic pinball genre. The game was created in cooperation with Sierra and Dynamix studio, and its action - on the wave of popularity of Jurassic Park film - takes us to the lost virgin land, full of bloodthirsty dinosaurs.
The game tells the story of three characters: Rex, an intrepid traveller, Professor Spector, an archaeologist, and his assistant, Mary. As a result of a plane crash, our protagonists find themselves on a mysterious island, a refuge for a mad scientist and evil genius known as Heckl. He conducts macabre experiments, interbreeding local natives and animals living on the island. Pursued by dinosaurs-mutants, we must stop Hecca and his people and get out of the island safely, while saving her indigenous inhabitant named Neeka.
Unlike the previous games from the 3D Ultra Pinball series, in which we had to deal with three tables with similar themes, The Lost Continent uses a slightly different division. The game offers 16 smaller tables, divided into three sectors: Jungle, Temple and Chambers. Despite the larger number of them, they are much less developed than in previous editions of the cycle. They were also deprived of a series of new challenges, which are the basis of the game, for example in Creep Night. The individual tables are thus beaten much faster, moving between them as the plot progresses.
From the technical point of view, the third part of the game does not bring any revolution. The Lost Continent is based on the same engine series as previous versions, which allows to display graphics in 640x480 resolution and 256 colors. Only the quality of textures and effects applied has improved slightly. The sound layer remains unchanged compared to Creep Night: while playing, we listen to digitalized music and samples, which become very repetitive if we play the game for a longer period of time.
