1944 Burning Bridges Description
1944 Burning Bridges is a turn-based strategy game recreating the course of one of the most important military operations of World War II, i.e. the landing of Allied troops in Normandy (also known under the code name D-Day). The game was developed by the German studio HandyGames, which has created a number of well-received mobile titles, including previous installments of the series: 1941 Frozen Front and 1942 Pacific Front.
Mechanics
In the game you can try your hand at playins as one of the chosen sides: Allied forces or Axis troops. Each of them has different, but well-balanced units and equipment, as well as completely different set of missions with different goals. The game takes place in rounds, on maps composed of hexagonal fields, and the basic task of the players is to assign tasks to individual units. In the game, therefore, we direct not only infantry and artillery troops, but also tanks, armored vehicles, and special units like paratroopers, spy balloons or bomber squadrons. As befits a game about landing in Normandy, there were also naval vessels.
Individual battles take place on historical battlefields and focus on the tactical side. We can check our commanding skills e.g. through a surprise attack, taking over key strategic points, capturing or destroying bunkers and bridges, or setting up blockades. Subsequent missions, maps, and scenarios are unlocked as the game progresses and although the title uses a typical free-to-play model with microtransactions, through which we can recruit any number of units for combat, they are not necessary for success.
Game modes
1944 Burning Bridges offers three gameplay modes. The first one is a classic single player campaign, while the other two are intended for multiplayer fun. We compete with our friends both online and simultaneously on the screen of one device.
Technical aspects
In terms of visuals, 1944 Burning Bridges resembles classic turn-based war strategies like the Panzer General series and looks very pleasing on screens of mobile devices. Not only the detailed graphics and the soundtrack are maintained in the war climates, but also nicely reproduced maps and a wide range of real-life units and vehicles deserve to be distinguished.
