Coins and supplies | Gameplay Mechanics Forge of Empires Guide & Walkthrough

Last update: 05 March 2018

As in any strategy game, in Forge of Empires the main objective of the player is to accumulate resources (aside from building the city and recruiting the army). In this case coins and supplies act as the "main" resources in the game. In this chapter, you will learn how to acquire both of them.

Coins - how to acquire them?

Coins must be collected regularly.

Coins are one of the two groups of "currencies" used in the game. Coins are needed in practically any in-game activity - constructing buildings, recruiting units, unlocking new technologies and so on. Interestingly, coins are not used for trade - in Forge of Empires trade is based on the exchange of goods, you cannot buy anything with "cash".

Coins in the game can be acquired with the help of:

Town Hall. The main building in the city that every player starts with. With each successive era, the building procures more coins, once every 24 hours.

Buildings from the "residential buildings" tab, or simply houses. Each generates a specific amount of coins every 15 minutes, 1 hour or a few hours. This is the main source of this resource. Additionally, it increases the amount of people in the city.

Completing missions. Completing some of the tasks will reward the player with coins.

Conquering new areas. By conquering some of the areas the player will be able to acquire large amounts of coins.

Great Buildings and special buildings. Some of the Great Buildings and special buildings generate coins.

Supporting other players. All you need to do is to visit the city of another player and select "Renovation" or "Motivation" option, or simply click "Support" on your friends list to acquire a small sum of coins. The amount increases with subsequent eras. Don't ignore this mechanic - it allows to gather huge amounts of coins and can sometimes net you a plan for a Great Building.

Treasure hunting. While you are on the main screen of the city, you can click on the icon on the left side of the screen (under the missions) to start treasure hunting. This allows the player to get coins, among other things. However, this functionality is available only on the PC version of the game.

Supplies - how to acquire them?

Supplies are the second type of "currency" used in the game, in most cases together with coins. Therefore, it serves almost the same purpose - it's used in the development of the city, recruiting troops or to research new technologies. However, you can't use supplies to purchase additional Forge Points.

Supplies in the game can be acquired with the help of:

Buildings from the "Production Buildings" tab, where you can find all kinds of workshops. Each one allows you to choose from 6 productions types - lasting 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, 8 hours and 24 hours.

Tips concerning coins and supplies

Due to the fact that acquiring coins and supplies is a key aspect of the game, it is worth getting acquainted with the following tips:

Coins and supplies must be collected regularly from the buildings that generate them - until you do so, they won't be generating their respective goods.

If you log in to the game occasionally, every few hours, construct the residential buildings (houses) that generate coins every 4 hours. They generate fewer coins than those that take 15 minutes or 1 hour, but they don't require the player to log into the game so often to collect the goods.

If, in turn, you can enter the game at any moment, even for a short while, construct houses that generate coins every 15 minutes. This will allow you to acquire substantially more coins.

The same applies to the production buildings (those that generate supplies). If you can visit the game regularly, select productions that take 5 or 15 minutes to complete. If, however, you can only log in occasionally, use the 4-8 hours production cycles. It's worth to select the 8-hour production for the night.

In the first days of the game, don't waste coins to purchase Forge Points - use them to recruit troops and construct buildings. Use coins to purchase Forge Points only when you have enough of them for other activities.
