Is PS5 without disc drive worth it?. Why It's Better to Get PS5 Digital Edition
Table of Contents
If you don't mind buying only digital releases and value the additional (physical) space this approach provides, they the answer is simple. Apart from all the advantages of PS5 Digital Edition, there's one more thing I have to mention, and it is quite important. Less components means less risk of any hardware failures – it provides a simpler, more efficient, yet equally powerful platform at reduced expense.
Anyone who has sent equipment for warranty repair knows exactly how long it can take to complete a simple checkup. A week sounds optimistic if it comes to having parts, or the entire console, replaced. All-digital users have one less thing to worry about. It can't break if it doesn't exist. You won't have to worry about the noise generated by the disc doing four thousand rpm inside the console. And I don't remember noisy hardware being any players' favorite.
This doesn't mean, of course, that consoles with an optical drive won't find any use. Some people also prefer to simply hold an actual copy of the game, rather than its digital image. It sometimes appears that physical games are generally cheaper than their digital counterparts. Examples are rather easy to find. The Last of Us 2 costs $60. In the UK, for example, you can get it for 47 pounds (free shipment). As far as the drive is concerned, you can also use it to watch movies in 4K quality. For someone able to appreciate the difference, it's really incomparable to compressed VOD streams.
There's no doubt digital-only PS5 makes sense, same as digital libraries, and that it offers a genuine alternative to the classic solution. The main reasons for buying a digital-only console are:
- Lower price,
- Slimmer chassis,
- Fewer components, higher efficiency,
- Quicker access to games,
- Saving of space,
- You can't lose digital games nor have them stolen,
- Less noise without the spinning disc.
Where to buy PlayStation 5 Digital
Of course, the devices will appear in stores only after the official launch. Then, you will be able to buy them in most online and retail stores.
There are still a few missing bits of information about the next-gen console. The price of PS5 is still unknown. So far, we've learned the PS5's hardware specs and release date. It was also announced that the Digital Edition will launch simultaneously with the optical-drive version. If no disaster strikes, it will happen during "the 2020 holiday season," at the latest in November. There's still time left to save up and get myself the perfect Christmas gift. I mean, everyone knows it, especially the corporate.
